Austin, you have a long history with Imperial Odyssey. What first got you hooked, and what has the journey been like?
Well actually the first time I had even heard about it was when Rudi asked if I knew and fit six foot black guys named Ben. I was then asked if I wanted to be part of a movie he was filming and told to memorize script. Ever since that first audition, there was no going back for me. I was hooked on the intricacy of the world he created. There was something about the way everything was written that imprinted this universe on my mind.
You've played many characters in films. Who are some of your favorite IO characters and why?
Oh geez! Where to begin? I would say it’s a very close tie between the Sanissian Eloth’Naka and Helmecutes. These two races/classes have so much thought put into them, like their background, creeds, and lore in general really. The Eloth’Naka are honor driven much like samurai and the Helmecutes are just beastly creatures that are rather difficult to kill. Put them together and it makes for a good time in my opinion (Laughs).
Actor, writer, player. So many different credits! What is your favorite contribution?
Just having the chance to be a part of all this is so cool. But I think writing and going more in depth with the world is the best. That way I can see more of how things fit together and offer alternate twists to each scenario. There’s a lot more that goes on in the world that can’t be put into the books or even movies just yet, but I think with time a lot of the back stories of the characters and places can be expressed better, and writing gets to explore those more.
What's next for you and Imperial Odyssey?
Honestly whatever Rudi needs help with. I would like to be in a position to permanently be an actor for him playing anything, I’ll even be an extra if that is what he needs. I know there is (hopefully) one acting position for a specific role but that won’t be for a while. And if not, then there is always writing for him that I can do.
Any last thoughts?
If you have not looked into the Imperial Odyssey, do so. With each character that is introduced, you will be able to see who you relate to most and just like any good book, you will want to dive into the next one. I can honestly see the potential for this franchise to be as big if not bigger than Star Wars. And that’s a high bar to meet.
